Studies conducted by NASA and Dr. Bill Wolverton indicate that this plant purifies the air from xylene and toluene. Wolverton explains that a plant with a height of 1.8 meters filters one liter of water every 24 hours, making it an effective humidifier. [4]
Characteristics:
The Areca Palm, also known as the Butterfly Palm due to the shape of its fronds, is an excellent plant for filling corners of your home with its outward-arching leaves. It is distinguished from other indoor palms, such as Kentia Palm or the Rhapis Palm, due to its fronds that are arranged together around the stems. According to NASA, the Areca Palm is one of the air-purifying plants, helping to add moisture and purify the air, creating a more comfortable environment. It is also non-toxic to pets. While it can be propagated by seeds, it can be difficult for gardeners to grow.
Watering:
Water the Areca Palm only when the top surface of the soil is dry. Overwatering can cause waterlogging, which leads to mold and root rot.
Fertilization:
Fertilize the Areca Palm with a multi-purpose fertilizer once a month, but reduce fertilization in winter.
Lighting:
It requires bright light but should be kept away from direct sunlight to avoid leaf burn.
Temperature:
Ideal temperature range: 18°C to 27°C.
Soil:
Prefers peat-moss soil with perlite for good drainage.
